Unveiling of Bronze Bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in Edinburgh, 3 July 2025

July 03, 2025

A moment of pride as the bronze bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, crafted by legendary Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar, was unveiled today in Edinburgh near the Royal Mile.

The bust was handed over by High Commissioner of India, H.E. Mr. Vikram Doraiswami to Rt Hon Mr. Robert Aldridge, Lord Provost of Edinburgh, who accepted the bust on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council.
Grateful to Ms. Kaukab Stewart, Minister for Equalities for Scotland, Ms. Anna Macmillan, Director and Head of Scotland Office, MPs and MSPs for gracing the occasion.

Placed opposite the statue of Sir Patrick Geddes, this symbolic reunion honours the enduring friendship and shared legacy of two visionary minds.
The event was followed by a dance-drama inspired by work of Tagore and an exhibition on India-Scotland relations.
We thank Indian Council For Cultural Relations (ICCR), ScoTs - Scottish Centre of Tagore Studies (SCoTS) & the friends of India for celebrating India–Scotland cultural bonds.
