Bijay Selvaraj

Bijay Selvaraj joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2006.  He began his diplomatic career in Cairo where he learnt Arabic at the American University of Cairo from 2008-10 and served as Second Secretary (Press and Political) at the Embassy of India, Cairo from 2010-13.  He later moved to Bangladesh as the First Secretary (Commercial) in 2013 and served there till 2016.  Subsequently, he worked as Deputy Secretary (Policy Planning and Research) from 2016-18 and as the Protector of Emigrants in Trivandrum from April 2018.

Mr. Selvaraj hails from Karungal in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu. He completed schooling from Montfort Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Yercaud.  He graduated in Electronics and Communications Engineering in 1997 from Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore and went on to complete his MBA from Alagappa Institute of Management in 1999.  He joined Madura Coats as an electrical engineer in 1999 and worked there till 2002. He is fluent in Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi.
