International Day of Yoga 2018 in Scotland

Celebration of the 4th International Day of Yoga in Scotland

    The Consulate General of India is celebrating 4th International Day of Yoga in Scotland from 15-27 June 2018.  The Yoga programme includes a Yoga Workshop, exclusive Yoga session with Common Yoga Protocol, Yoga Awareness Programme and Peace Walk around the Edinburgh Hindu Mandir and Cultural Centre on 23rd June 2018.  As the United Nations declared 21st June as International Day of Yoga, Government of India stands committed for spreading Yoga awareness in the world under the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ , i.e., the whole world is a family. Yoga is a Sanskrit word which symbolises the union of body and soul, nature and consciousness and divine energy of individual with the universe.  Yoga orients body and soul towards physical and mental wellbeing. 
2.  The City Council of Edinburgh and the Lord Provost Rt. Hon. Frank Ross have been instrumental in spreading Yoga in Edinburgh.  The Edinburgh City Council is the co-host for the Yoga programme in Edinburgh on 21st June 2018.  The City Council has also kindly provided the prestigious Princes Street Gardens as the venue for 21st June 2018 programme.  Rt. Hon Lord Provost will be the Chief Guest.  On this occasion, people will also witness yogic dance performance by an eminent cultural troupe from India.

3.  Separately, the renowned Swami Ramdev Ji is visiting Glasgow and Edinburgh as part of his UK tour on the occasion of the 4th International Day of Yoga. The Consulate will also be organizing a mega event in association with Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust (U.K) at the Emirates Arena Stadium in Glasgow.  Born on 25th December 1965, Swami Ramdev Ji is a saga of Yoga in India and in the world.  His eminent rise as Yogi and Celebrity has become a phenomenon. In 2003, he started a Yoga Mission to teach Yoga through Aastha Channel to reach out to every family in India.  His organisation Patanjai Yog Peeth in Haridwar has been developed as a holistic Yoga Health Care Centre where yoga and alternative medicines are taught and practised.  

4.  Swami Ramdev Ji had been considered for Padma Vibhushan Award by Government of India.  He was honoured by the British House of Commons in July 2007 and has bagged many eminent felicitations and awards for his Yoga teachings and practice.  

5.  Another unique programme to celebrate 4th International Day of Yoga being organized by the Consulate General in association with Britain Hindu Forum and Edinburgh Hindu Mandir and Cultural Centre on 23rd June 2018 is the Peace Walk by the Modern Mystic: Sri M –Walk of Hope 2018.  Sri M is dreamer of peace, a social reformer, educationist and a sage.  He has already walked from Kashmir to Kanyakumari for peace.  He is well-known for his social and philanthropic work for the lower strata of the society in Southern India.  

6. Lastly, under the 4th International Day of Yoga programme, the Consulate General will also be organizing yoga workshop at – Aberdeen, Perth, South Ayrshire, Patna, Dundee, Glasgow, Inverness and Fife.  The Consulate is also launching a Yoga magazine containing scholarly articles on the various forms of Yoga and Common Yoga Protocol for the benefit of all.
