Launching of India – U.K. Year of Culture in Edinburgh

       The ‘India–U.K. Year of Culture’ was launched jointly by the Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost of Edinburgh City Mr. Donald Wilson and the Consul General of India Mrs. Anju Ranjan in an official function hosted at the City Chambers, Edinburgh, on 28thApril, 2017.  The function was attended by the officials of the Edinburgh City Council, officials of the Scottish Government, officials of the Consulate General as well as the members of the Indian community in Edinburgh. 

2.    In his speech, the Lord Provost commended the Indian community of Edinburgh for their positive contribution to the city of Edinburgh. In her address, Consul General of India highlighted the importance of the strong cultural relations between India and the U.K. and listed out the various cultural activities planned to be held in Scotland during the year as a part of the India-U.K. Year of Culture’.  She also mentioned that the celebration of India-U.K Year of Culture assumes greater importance for the fact that it coincides with the celebration of 70th anniversary of India’s Independence.  To give an example of the richness of India-U.K. cultural relations, Consul General mentioned how the trails of migration of several Indian plants to Scotland can be seen well preserved in the Royal Botanical Garden of Edinburgh.   Light refreshments were served at the end of the function.
