The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Consulate General of India. Firstly the Consul General and the Lord Provost of Edinburgh Rt Hon Frank Ross , garlanded the existing bust of Mahatma Gandhi in the iconic Saughton Park. Consul General and Lord Provost delivered a small speech on the life and message of Gandhi and wowed to take the Scotland – India relationship further.

The celebration then shifted to the Indian Consulate. There favorite bhajans of Gandhi ji were rendered beautifully by Mrs. Preetha. Thereafter a documentary film provided by the publicity division, on the life of Gandhi based on the achieved footage and photos of Gandhi ji and freedom struggle were screened. The participants were from all walks of life including from the Diplomatic core, Edinburgh Maker Prof. Alan Spence, Councillor Ms. Catherine Fullerton, Aline Dobbie the famous travel writer and Indologist. It also included Indian Community from Edinburgh and outside Edinburgh, from Glasgow, Sterling, and Fife to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The program ended with the national anthem and vegetarian lunch, hosted by the Consulate General of India, Edinburgh.
